Sustainability

As a by-product of the meat industry, Animal Fat producers support sustainability by rendering trimmed fat into usable Tallow and Lard, promoting “nose-to-tail” eating. This process allows for all parts of the animal to be used, creating much less waste, and lowering our carbon footprint.

Rendering is an environmentally friendly way to recycle all parts of the animal that otherwise would be wasted. Renderers collect almost 56 billion pounds of raw material in the U.S. and Canada yearly, 10 billion of which are going into fat and oil products. If all these products were sent to a landfill, all available space would be used up in 4 years!

Vegetable and seed oils are treated with chemicals both in the field to ensure high yield, and again during processing to add taste. These toxic chemicals have a negative impact on our environment and our health. From crop to rendering, Animal Fats are naturally safer than vegetable and seed oils.

Animal fats have a longer fry-life. Pound for pound, ounce for ounce, you’ll get more use out of oils that are Animal Fat-based than vegetable oils.

Using Animal Fats in non-food applications reduces the demand for petroleum-based waxes, making it eco-friendly and another way to reduce our carbon footprint.
